As students start back to school for the 2020-2021 school year, four grades will do so with TechForEd instructional devices. These devices are part of a four-year plan to create technology-enabled classrooms in fifth through twelfth grades that prepare students to thrive in a digitally connected world in alignment with the Jeffco Generations Strategic Plan.

5th graders 1:1 Device Rollout 2019-20 

2020-2021 fifth- and ninth-graders in neighborhood and option schools will receive their new devices as a part of this program. Sixth- and tenth-graders already have TechForEd devices they received last year.

Cost Benefits

  • Students receive a high-quality device and protective case for less than they would have paid to purchase the same device on their own
    • Estimated cost of the Chromebook option with a case is $304; estimated cost of the iPad option with a case is $358
    • Estimated cost of the core set of digital instruction tools each student receives on their devices is approximately $17

  • Technology fees are standardized across the district
    • Families of students who receive a device will pay $50/year for the device, case, and digital tools
    • Funds from the 5A mill levy override will be paired with these fees to fund the program

  • Schools receive digital learning tools, teacher professional development to instruct with those tools, internet filtering, bandwidth, and additional support

  • Equity: All schools provide equitable devices and programming for their students

  • Device Consistency: Reduces time spent on device management and troubleshooting issues in the classroom; devices can be used at any school within the district

  • Connectivity: All devices will automatically connect to the instructional wifi

  • Added Security: A security filter will be installed on all devices for use at school and home

  • Testing: Students will take state-mandated tests on their own devices

  • Convenience: Loaner devices will be available through the library during repairs
