Talent Pool
We believe that every child has the right to receive whatever they need to develop their academic and social emotional potential to thrive every day.
Talent Pool is a group of students who demonstrate an advanced/exceptional ability in a particular area, but at this time do not meet the formal criteria for gifted identification.
- CDE Identification guidebook, 2018
The GT department wants to better identify high-potential students, including students among minority, English Language Learner and Free/Reduced Lunch populations utilizing local (school-based) norms, and to provide appropriately challenging instructional resources and strategies for these students to actualize their potential.
Referral for gifted identification or Talent Pool
Anyone can refer a student for gifted identification or Talent Pool. Input from all teachers and school staff is welcome. We welcome family referrals and also confer with Family Engagement Liaisons and school secretaries. Jeffco has developed a variety of screening procedures for conducting formal GT identification and Talent Pool inclusion.
What will my child be doing?
Students will engage in various enriched instruction depending on their school. Some schools may have cohorts where Talent Pool students are grouped together for at least part of their school day. Some schools promote greater depth of questioning, while others may have specific resources for gifted/advanced learners to supplement their normal curriculum, and some may offer extension or after-school enrichment.
