Significant Support Needs Center Program

Significant Support Needs center programs (SSN programs) are designed to support students with the most complex learning needs including those with Significant Intellectual Disabilities requiring modifications as determined by their IEP team.

They provide specialized instruction aligned to Colorado’s Extended Evidence Outcomes (EEOs) and intensive supports to help these students access the modified curriculum and develop essential life skills.

Who Are Significant Support Needs Centers For?

  • SSN programs serve highly diverse learners with extensive needs in the following areas: cognitive, communication, and physical and fine motor.
  • Students may also have concurrent health, sensory, physical, and/or social emotional emotional/ behavioral needs as well as hearing and visual impairments.
  • SSN Center Programs are in place for students with significant needs and provide them access to EEOs and the general education environments with a lower student to teacher ratio.

How Do Significant Support Needs Centers Serve Students?

  • Students in SSN programs benefit from a wide variety of approaches and supports tailored to their individual needs.
  • They receive intensive instruction in literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving.
  • Assistive technology can be utilized to support communication, learning and demonstration of knowledge.
  • Progress is measured through various methods, including observation, data collection, assessment and work samples.
