Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 504) is a federal law that protects the rights of individuals with disabilities. Under Section 504, students with disabilities are entitled to a free appropriate public education (FAPE) that includes the provision of related aids and services and/or accommodations designed to meet their educational needs as adequately as the needs of students without disabilities are met.
Student with disabilities who need special education (in addition to related aids/services and/or accommodations) receive Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that meet with the requirements of both Section 504 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). More information regarding the IDEA and special education services in Jeffco can be found on the Special Education webpage.
