Program Description
Accelerating Students through Concurrent Enrollment (ASCENT) is a Concurrent Enrollment program which allows students to participate in college courses after their 12th grade year. This scholarship covers the cost of tuition; students pay for their own book and campus fees. Students should talk to their home high school counselor if interested in the ASCENT program. Additionally, the following requirements must be met:

Being under the age of 21.

Being both academically and emotionally ready for college.

Having a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Being enrolled in a Jeffco school 11th and 12th grades as a full time student.

On track to meet all high school graduation requirements by the end of your senior year.

Completed, or be on track to complete, at least 12 credit hours of college coursework prior to the completion of your 12th grade year. Only AP/IB scores earned in 9th, 10th and 11th grade will be accepted.

Not be in need of basic skills/developmental education coursework (college courses that are lower than 100-level).

Has the required SAT, ACT or Accuplacer scores to meet any prerequisites for classes.

Has an updated Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP).

Has applied and been accepted to one of our ASCENT partner colleges:

Arapahoe Community College
-
Community College of Denver
-
Front Range Community College
-
Metropolitan State University
-
Red Rocks Community College
-
Authorized the use of their College Opportunity Fund (COF).

Have not participated in the ASCENT program in previous years.
ASCENT nominations are open November-March of the year prior to the student’s ASCENT year. Approved nominees will be given instructions on next steps to complete their ASCENT application, and must complete all steps prior to the deadline in order to remain eligible. All nominees are considered “candidates”, and will be notified if they are selected to participate in ASCENT after June 1st.
ASCENT nominees are not guaranteed a slot, and are encouraged to apply to any postsecondary institutions they are interested in attending, as well as apply for any scholarships for which they may be eligible.
