Why This Plan Matters
The Strategic Capital Master Plan gives Jeffco a comprehensive look at the condition, use, and long-term needs of its school buildings. It brings together information about enrollment, building conditions, how schools are being used, learning spaces, and long-term facility needs.
The plan does not create a set list of projects. Instead, it provides a roadmap for how Jeffco will look at facility needs, set priorities, and make responsible decisions about buildings and investments over time.

What the Data Shows
The data shows several important trends:
- Jeffco has fewer students than it did ten years ago. Enrollment continues to change across the county. Some schools have a lot of unused space, while others are using most or all of their available space.
- Some critical building systems need to be replaced or updated. Across the district, heating and cooling, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and other core systems are reaching the end of their useful life and need ongoing investment to keep schools safe, reliable, and functional.
- Some buildings do not fully meet today's learning needs. There are opportunities to improve learning spaces, technology, career programs, flexible spaces, and other specialized programs.
- These challenges will take time to address. Jeffco cannot meet all of its facility needs through one project or one-time investment. Long-term planning and clear priorities are needed.
How the Facilities Explorer Tool Helps
The Strategic Capital Master Plan includes a detailed look at Jeffco's facilities. The new Facilities Explorer tool makes much of that information easier for the public to see.
The Facilities Explorer is a public-facing companion to the plan. It allows community members to see information such as:

How We Will Use This Information
The Strategic Capital Master Plan gives Jeffco a consistent way to make decisions about future investments in school buildings.
Jeffco will not use one number, score or ranking to make these decisions. Instead, we will look at several factors together, including:
- The condition of the building
- The quality of learning spaces
- Enrollment trends
- How much of the building is being used
- Student program needs
- Equity and access
- Geographic location
- Long-term needs across the district
