When students attend school regularly, they build relationships, access the resources they need and stay on track for the future they're working toward. That's what Jeffco Shows Up is all about, and we want every family to know we're in this together.
Why Attendance Matters
Missing school adds up faster than most families realize. Missing just two days a month can mean missing nearly 10% of the school year. Research shows that chronic absenteeism affects students' ability to build skills, maintain friendships and stay connected to trusted adults at school.
We are committed to supporting students and families with:
- Early Literacy: Students who miss too much school are less likely to read at grade level by third grade.
- Math Proficiency: Regular attendance supports the ongoing practice needed for strong math skills.
- Future Success: Good attendance builds habits that support graduation and long‑term achievement.
Regular attendance helps students:
- Build meaningful relationships with teachers and classmates
- Access meals, activities and support services
- Stay engaged with learning before gaps have a chance to grow
- Feel like they belong — because they do
We know it's not always simple. We can help.
Attendance challenges are rarely about effort or attitude. Transportation, illness, housing instability, caregiving responsibilities, mental health, safety concerns and family stress can all get in the way of showing up consistently. We understand that, and we don't want families to navigate those barriers alone.
If something is making it hard for your student to attend school, please reach out to your school as early as possible. The sooner we know, the more we can help.
