Food Programs

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides nutritious meals to students 18 years and younger during the summer or other continuous school calendar vacation programs. Meals are provided to all students (ages 1-18) at no cost at approved SFSP sites in areas with high concentrations of low-income students. 

SFSP sponsoring organizations are operated by public and private nonprofit school food authorities, nonprofit residential and nonresidential camps, local, municipal, county or state governments, public or private colleges or universities participating in the National Youth Sports Program and private nonprofit organizations.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides students in participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables during school. The program is an effective and creative way of introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options to improve eating habits that combat childhood obesity. 

The FFVP introduces school children to a variety of produce that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample. The FFVP also encourages schools to develop partnerships at the state and local level to support the program.

Hungry students have a more difficult time doing their best work in the classroom. That’s why Jeffco Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) wants to encourage all students to begin their school day with a nutritious, great-tasting breakfast.

School breakfast provides ¼ of your student’s nutritional needs, meets Dietary Guidelines recommendations and offers students a chance to eat breakfast with their friends. With the passage of Healthy School Meals for All, all students enrolled in a Jeffco Public School site that participates in the School Breakfast Program may participate in breakfast at no cost. Thank you for helping us make sure that all of our students start the school day alert, well-nourished and ready to learn. The Afterschool Snack Program (ASP) provides snacks for education and enrichment programs that help reduce or prevent involvement in juvenile crime or other high risk behavior. Eligible programs serving snacks to students may be claimed for reimbursement if they meet USDA requirements.
