School Gardens
School gardens have innumerable benefits to both students and staff. School gardens can be used as an outdoor classroom, a place for students to connect with nature, engage in physical activity and learn where their food comes from. School gardens help encourage teamwork, individual responsibility and commitment to success. When students get their own hands dirty, they are more willing to try new foods, especially fruits and vegetables.
Jeffco Public Schools has over 50 gardens on school property and partners with local non-profits such as Denver Urban Gardens and Jovial Concepts to support these gardens' development and ongoing education.
