Chromebook Care & Repair

• Keep the case, screen cover, and Jeffco stickers or labels on the Chromebook at all times. These items maintain the repair warranty on the device.
• Do not eat or drink when using the Chromebook.
• Excessive heat or cold may damage the device. Avoid leaving a device in the car.
• Avoid stacking heavy items, like textbooks, on top of the device, which can damage the screen.
• Do not place the device on an uneven surface where it might fall.
• Plug and unplug cords from the device carefully. Be aware of cord placement so someone doesn’t walk into the cord and pull the device off a table or desk.
• Always completely close the device before storing or carrying it. When closing, ensure no items are trapped between the screen and the keyboard.
• To clean the device, use a soft, dry microfiber or anti-static cloth. Do not use cleaning chemicals.
• Any chargers used with the device must be the same brand of device. Off-brand chargers may not be used.
  • E.g.: Lenovo chargers must be used with a Lenovo Chromebook.

• Keep the device charged to ensure a long-lasting battery. Avoid letting the battery drop below 5%, whenever possible. Students not using their Chromebooks over the summer should put them into long-term battery storage.
• Reboot the Chromebook at school once a week to prompt any new updates to load. If you do not reboot your Chromebook regularly, it will reboot on its own.
• It is important to keep track of the Chromebook at all times. Do not leave it in an unsupervised location.
• Never share your username or login information with anyone.

Most Chromebook issues can be solved with simple steps. Try these first before submitting the device for repair:

1. Restart the device
2. Charge the device
3. Verify the wireless connection
4. Update the device operating system
5. Reset the device

If a device is not fixed using basic troubleshooting techniques, the Chromebook may need repair. Students can submit their device to their school library to be reviewed by a technician. If it is determined that the device requires physical repair, schools will assign the student a comparable device.

Students needing their device repaired during school breaks should use the Summer Chromebook Repair Process.

For lost or stolen devices, students should notify their school so the district is able to lock the device. This will render the device unusable by anyone other than Jeffco IT staff. If stolen, contact local law enforcement in addition to the school.

Students no longer attending a Jeffco neighborhood or option school must return their device. All Jeffco graduates will also return their TechforEd devices prior to their graduation date.
