Payment Card Industry Efforts
Jeffco Public Schools partners with Wells Fargo for all credit card transactions. This allows for an additional layer of security. Our information security analyst works closely with staff at Wells Fargo and the SAST Team to ensure the highest level of security controls. Jeffco also works with Secure Trust to engage in security scans on the network endpoints to ensure data goes back and forth fully encrypted. All workstations have endpoint detection and response applied and we monitor logs continually.
As a public entity that accepts credit card payments for various reasons, Jeffco must adhere to payment card industry (PCI) requirements to safeguard the card information of families and employees.
As part of Jeffco's security awareness and compliance efforts, the Information Security team, in collaboration with the School Accounting and Support Team (SAST), has begun implementing steps that will help Jeffco meet current PCI regulations and requirements.
A few of the steps being taken to meet this initiative include:
- Reassess current PCI standings to ensure the district is moving in the right direction. This assessment will put the district in a position to complete the necessary documents and questionnaires for the PCI Council to earn compliance standing.
- Provide schools with a first line of contact to respond to PCI questions and issues that may arise.
- Provide necessary PCI training to designated Jeffco staff who will be significant liaisons in this effort.
- Provide PCI awareness training to all Jeffco staff.
- Implement yearly review process for existing procedures.
